Insurance Mobile Phone
Insurance Mobile Phone - An Overview
It is no longer enough to think only about the phone itself. Insurance for mobile phones has become an equally important issue. Unfortunately, crime rates show no sign of slowing down and mobile phone crime has shot up. The statistics make grim reading:
- A mobile phone is stolen every minute in the UK**
- Latest figures show half of all street crime now involves mobile phone theft**
- Mobile phones remain the number one target for muggers** .
- 50% of mobile phone owners reported that their phone had been lost or stolen in the last 3 years**.
- 1 in 3 felt that they would lose touch with people if they lost their phone**.
- Approximately 1 in 5 car crime victims will have their mobile phone stolen** .
Many companies now offer insurance for mobile phones to protect against theft but theft is not the only reason to insure your mobile phone. Loss, damage (especially water damage) and fraudulent calls are just some of the reasons you might want to consider mobile phone insurance.
Most of the mobile phone shops / network providers offer mobile phone insurance. As with all types of insurance, it pays to shop around rather than simply taking what is offered when you buy your phone. Some companies will offer some uesful extras in addition to the standard mobile phone insurance.
goshopuk, for eaxample, whose policies are underwritten by Norwich Union, do not require you to take out a 12 month contract.
talkcover also has no minimum term
Mphone provides some useful no claims bonuses: After 12 months you will receive a free battery worth up to £82 and after 24 months you will receive a free upgrade to the latest handset. This has to be weighed up against the implied length of contract of course.
As with all insurance, it's always worth looking at companies not not directly connected with mobile phones. Argos and Tesco are two possibilities. If you happen to be a Lloyds TSB Added Value Current Account holder then you should get mobile phone insurance included.
